Battle of Hartville

May 2, 2015 Hannah Sturtecky

The more I shoot the more I realize that one of my favorite things to photograph are reenactments. It doesn't even have to be Civil War, like I did this time, just anytime that people escape reality to do something fun with their time. I think it stems from why fantasy is my favorite type of book to read. If I'm going to be escaping reality why not make it a better version than what we have? An escape like this can relieve stress when dealing with everyday life, and I like to think that it may be part of the reason for the people I met re-enacting as well.

So when my friend and colleague Jill Vondy asked if I would like to travel two hours to southern Missouri to shoot a Civil War reenactment I said yes. Getting to know these men as the weekend went on I got why they did this and I understood why I liked to shoot these events.

Here is a collection of my favorite images from this weekend, it's actually pretty impressive that I was able to narrow it down to so little considering I way over shot this weekend.
